Carmel Senior Secondary School, Port Blair was stared on 16th July 1968 by the sisters of the Apostolic Carmel, an indigenous educational Congregation of wide and long experience. It is Catholic established by the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society in the Roman Catholic Diocese. The school is under the religious jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Port Blair. It is an unaided educational institution run by the Catholic Minority Community with all rights and privileges granted by the Constitution of India and is affiliated to CBSE.
The School aims at holistic education and extends its service to all communities to the extent possible. The school stands for academic excellence, development of skills and character formation, based on the love of God and the service of human kind, as modeled in Jesus Christ with a view to having citizens remarkable for their all-round development and sincere commitment to God and the Country.
The School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (New Delhi) and empowered by it to prepared students for All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination ( AISSCE- XII), The first batch of class XII appeared in March 2002 with a single stream of science. Presently Carmel also offers Arts and Commerce streams. The medium of instruction is English with Hindi as second language. The long actualized dream of having a separate wing for the Pre- Primary was actualized on 5th July 2003. Glory to God for enabling Carmel to become a full pledged School from Nursery to Class XII.
